The Game Resumes

Well, I’ve started this week’s entry and deleted it about twelve times now, so here’s what you get for your lead-in sentence. I had a good weekend, but now it’s time to get back to it. My goal remains unchanged: 6 pages divided across 3 projects daily, but we’ll get back to that.

Friday was probably the most eventful day I’ve had in a while. A friend of mine had a spare ticket to the Black Label Society concert at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, but his vehicle was… well, let’s just say I personally wouldn’t trust it to go around a block let alone 40 miles…

So yeah. Simple trade. I get the spare ticket. He gets a ride and also covered parking.

Aside from the mixing board going quiet during one song, it was a good concert. Bought a Dark Chapel band t-shirt and got an autographed poster with it. Zakk Sabbath sounded good. My daughter is still shocked by how similar Zakk sounds to Ozzy. BLS, of course, didn’t disappoint, but during The Blessed Hellride, I was reminded just how terrible Pittsburgh is at call-and-response. I’m pretty sure less than half of us actually sang back the lyric.

One thing I learned, however, is that, while I still appreciate and enjoy the music, this is most decidedly not my scene anymore. Does my playlist still feature a lot of hard rock and metal? Absolutely. But more and more, I find that lighter, poppier music is moving in. Help! I’m getting old! That said, I find myself contemplating making a trip to Columbus to see Davvn in November…

Now I’m sure some people are wondering why I, an author on their author page, am going on and on about music. To you I say: You really didn’t read my bio, did you???

Music has always been central to my creative process. I have specific playlists to get into each of my protagonists’ headspace. The one June project is especially being colored by music. No joke. No exaggeration. I have a 40+ song playlist dedicated to getting into and staying in her headspace. None of which sounds even remotely similar to any of the bands I saw Friday!

So now it’s time to turn my attention to getting these projects written. September is drawing to a close, Mabon/Equinox/whatever-you-call-it is tomorrow. The days are growing shorter. The nights are growing longer. February is closing fast. And, unfortunately, books still don’t write themselves.
