Back to Autumn
Yesterday was not messing around. Summer really wanted one last gasp, and I paid the price. It’s hard to believe the weather impacts my creative output so drastically, yet here we are. I struggled, struggled to bang out 3 pages yesterday, and I’m only counting it as 3 because I crossed the halfway point of 1 page. I just couldn’t focus, and fell shy on the dark YA by a page and didn’t even touch the contemporary YA.
But yesterday is yesterday, and today is today. I’m not holding the shortcomings of yesterday against myself today, nor am I going to force myself to bang out those 3 missing pages today to make it up. That would just end in disaster as far as writing quality goes. My daily goal lies before me: 1 page of the middle grade monster academia, 2 pages of the contemporary YA, and 3 pages of the dark YA urban fantasy.
The weather is back on my side, so getting back to it shouldn’t be a challenge. It’s a gloomy, rainy day where we hit the high overnight and will be sitting in the mid 60s all afternoon and evening. That’s perfect writing conditions for me. I’ve got my cup of coffee (and Witch’s Brew Alani chilling in the fridge for later!), a fall ambience video playing in the background, a cat in either window behind me, and the work in front of me. The only thing I’m missing is a little ball of darkness going purr-purr-purr in my lap.
One downside to the rain is that that means no corn maze or pumpkin patch tonight. Oh well. Looks like we’ll just move it to tomorrow afternoon. Should give us good atmosphere to continue our 31 Days of Halloween movie marathon. Last night was Hubie Halloween, tonight, The Addams Family, and then I’m thinking Scream on Saturday and Scary Movie (2000 not 2026) on Sunday.
Busy, busy weekend, but the day isn’t over yet. First, the writing, then everything else.
