Alright, first blog since ending titling my twice-weekly goal-setting and check-in follow-up (that’s a lot of hyphens!) Let’s go!
The busy weekend that I knew was coming was exactly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Spent all day Saturday outside doing yard work, which included hacking into a cypress that needs to go. Pruned back most of its branches in preparation to cut it down later this week, so this is the year I finally get rid of it. I’ve only been trying to for the past 7 years! Sunday, meanwhile, was relatively light by comparison and consisted mostly of housework and light plumbing.
Meanwhile, in writing land, the dark YA urban fantasy has been begging for me to finish this chapter since Friday. Unfortunately, I just didn’t have the time to get to it. I’m within 300 words of finishing the chapter, so that is my goal there today: end the chapter. At the same time, the YA contemporary drama is sitting there waiting (impatiently) for me to get to it, and the middle-grade monster academia is being a good little manuscript and chugging along.
My goal for the week remains unchanged: 6 manuscript pages divided between the 3 projects every day Monday-Friday. Eventually, as this system progresses and I can get ahead of my release schedule, this will even out to 2 manuscript pages per project per day, but as it stands now it is 3 for the dark YA urban fantasy, 2 for the YA contemporary drama, and 1 for the middle-grade monster academia.
Today being October 12th, I’m setting a goal for end-of-month. With 19 days left in the month, I want to be finishing Chapter 10 of the dark YA. I’m already 6 chapters into it, and as long as I don’t hit another creative block (knock on wood), that should be doable. Additionally, I want to reach Chapter 5 in the contemporary YA at the same time. It’s just a matter of staying consistent and hitting my daily goals. And therein is the crux of it all: consistency is king.
That’s enough procrastinating for one day. If I want to hit my goals, I have to work at them. See you on Friday!
